Client: St Cuthbert's RC Business & Enterprise College
Project: Courtyard Infill
In April 2010 St Cuthbert's RC Business & Enterprise College invited NK Consultants to submit proposals to enclose an internal courtyard area within an existing building.
The aim of the scheme was to create improved student commonroom facilities.
The large open plan area gives a sense of light, air and space in which the pupils can interact in a relaxed environment.
The Project
The steel frame was designed to incorporate a split-level roof in order to provide natural light and ventilation into the new space as well as retaining natural ventilation and light to the existing adjoining IT room.
The new high level windows are designed with opening lights operated at ground level with winding gear in order to control the natural ventilation.
A walkway was incorporated into the layout to provide a link between the differing floor levels and to create an access to the existing toilet facilities from the new common room space.
