Client: Lancaster & Morecambe College
Project: Fitness Suite & Changing Pavilion
Overview

In September 2010 Lancaster & Morecambe College invited NK Consultants to submit outline proposals for the construction of a new fitness suite and changing pavilion in order to enhance and improve the current sports facilities at the college including the provision of two new sports pitches.

The investment in new facilities will not only support the high-level sporting achievements of the Colleges Football Academy and Sports Development Centres, but provide fitness facilities for all staff and students, as well as introducing new, fully accessible health and fitness resources to the local community.
The Project

The scheme comprised the construction of two building extensions to create a new state of the art fitness suite, and an outdoor changing pavilion. The existing grass pitches were replaced with two new synthetic based sports pitches, complete with new floodlighting.

The existing sports accommodation was to be remodelled in order to provide internal access to the new fitness suite. The changing pavilion will be accessed externally and will service the new sports pitches.

The building design draws from a palette of materials that compliments the existing sports buildings. The incorporation of a deep overhang on the fitness suite reduces solar gain.
